Menopause nutrition in NYC, planned by a registered dietitian from your own test results

Many of the women we see tell us the way they ate at 35 stopped working somewhere in their 40s. We measure your metabolic rate, body composition, bone density and labs first. Then a registered dietitian builds your nutrition plan from those numbers and adjusts it every month.

What changes

What menopause changes about how you eat

The scale tends to miss what is happening during the menopause transition. In the SWAN study, which followed women with repeated DEXA scans, the rate of fat gain doubled at the start of the transition and lean mass began to decline, while the rate of weight gain itself did not change (Greendale et al., JCI Insight, 2019).

So we plan from body composition and metabolic rate. A nutrition plan at this stage has to hold on to muscle, support bone, keep blood sugar and cholesterol in range, and still be something you can live with. The amounts depend on your own numbers, which is why testing comes before the plan.

How it works

Testing first, then the plan

  1. 01

    Baseline testing

A metabolic rate test for what you burn at rest, a DEXA scan for bone density and body composition, and labs where indicated.

  2. 02

    Your first nutrition visit

An hour with a registered dietitian. Sasha reviews every result with you, asks how you eat now and what gets in the way, and writes the starting plan.

  3. 03

    Monthly follow-ups

A visit each month to adjust the plan. Body composition and labs are measured again at about six months, so changes are checked against your baseline.

Nutrition is one of three tracks in our twelve-month menopause program, alongside medical fitness and endocrinology. See how the full menopause program works.

Your dietitian

A registered dietitian for menopause, in Manhattan and Long Island City

People usually search for a menopause nutritionist. Your visits here are with a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN), a clinical credential, so your dietitian reads your labs and works alongside our endocrinologist.

Sasha Bayat, RDN, directs neXendo Wellness and built our menopause protocol. Every menopause patient is scheduled with Sasha for nutrition. Dr. Anastasios Manessis, our endocrinologist, reads your labs and manages the medical side.

Questions

Menopause nutrition questions

Do I need a menopause nutritionist or a dietitian?

The two words get used for the same thing. At neXendo Wellness your nutrition visits are with a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN), who works from your test results and alongside an endocrinologist.

Can a nutrition plan help with menopause symptoms?

Food is one part of it. Studies link a Mediterranean-style eating pattern with fewer reported hot flashes and night sweats, and your plan sets protein alongside strength work to protect muscle. What your plan focuses on depends on your symptom scores and your test results.

Do I have to be in menopause already?

No. Many women start in perimenopause, in their 40s, with a symptom such as weight gain, fatigue, changing periods or a borderline lab.

Will I be put on a strict diet or a list of supplements?

Your dietitian starts from what you eat now, your labs and your measured metabolic rate, and changes the plan as those numbers change. Supplements come up after we see your labs and what your food already provides.
